I’ve always had Golden Retrievers, but I had never been to a training class before. I took my hefty and somewhat bonkers Golden Retriever to Adolescent Dog Training with Jenny Woolliams, initially with much trepidation. Would he charge off towards other dogs or people in the class dragging me embarrassingly and apologetically behind me? But no, the trainers were brilliant, showing me how to calm him kindly and get him to do what I asked -and surprisingly quickly too! I now feel really confident walking out with him on my own and I can carry on working him which gives him so much pleasure every day. The sessions were brilliant and I learned a lot. Byron loved the sessions and if he could speak he would say “Thank you Jenny and Leigh Anne!”
Blossom’s main area for concern was her lack of social skills with other dogs. She was a rescue dog and had never been introduced to other dogs and felt threatened and anxious at their presence. Jenny worked hard at teaching me to read Blossom’s anxiety and arousal, to notice the negative signs before Blossom reacted. It was crucial that this behaviour was dealt with in a private and controlled environment before I took her to public places. Blossom is a Staffie Cross and they have a bad enough reputation without the owners of this breed being able to read the signs and know how to cope with issues should they arise. We spent time meeting different dogs, learning how to walk properly on the lead towards other dogs and then away from those dogs when things seemed like they might get out of hand and generally spending time in the near vicinity of other dogs. Had Jenny not been there to offer her experience, knowledge and guidance, it could well have been a different story. A big thank you! (Lucy, Cirencester)

“We were being challenged by two very different dogs with two very different needs. One is a very energetic dog who would not respond to being recalled when out for walks and the other a very lively pup, who having been diagnosed with elbow dysplasia at a very young age, needed to have plenty to keep him amused without getting too much exercise. Jenny was recommended to us by our local pet shop in Malmesbury and also through a friend, who was already lucky enough to have discovered Positively dogs. Through working on a one to one basis Jenny has succeeded in putting together training programmes for each dog to achieve the results we were hoping for. Both dogs have responded brilliantly and apart from the fact they couldn’t wait for the next session to come round they are now happier and more responsive to each new challenge that is given.”
Thank you Jenny for all the support, advice and encouragement you have given me over the last year. Since Tia’s injury and behaviour deterioration your positive approach to training by reward and distraction strategies have helped me enormously to work with Tia to relearn good and acceptable behaviors, which makes us both happy.1-1’s, group work and the course are all excellent. Thank you again and your team, we look forward to the next stage.
